Cool off on those hot summer days with a Vegan Frozen Hot Chocolate.

This recipe is frosty, creamy, sweet, and full of chocolate just like the steaming hot chocolate we enjoy during the winter months.

It’s just a simply easy icy treat that everyone will enjoy!

Vegan Frozen Hot Chocolate

In this recipe I did not want to add any sugar, so I used very ripe bananas to sweeten this treat.

But if you want a little bit more sweetness, you can add a little maple syrup or, sometimes, I add a few drops of liquid stevia to sweeten my treat.

There is not much to this frozen treat, just bananas, vanilla, cinnamon, a nut butter, cocoa powder, and a plant based milk.

Ingredients for this treat

  • Banana – Adding a very ripe banana adds sweetness without adding any extra sugar.
  • Cocoa Powder – I like to use a cocoa powder instead of a hot cocoa mix.
  • Pure Vanilla Extract – Using vanilla extract in this treat enhances the flavor of the chocolate while balancing the bitterness of the cocoa powder.
  • Nut Butter – I love adding a nut butter to my frozen hot chocolate. My favorites are peanut butter and almond butter. This adds flavor as well as thickening and giving it a creamier texture.
  • Ground Cinnamon – I added a little cinnamon to this frozen hot chocolate. This is optional. The cinnamon adds more richness to the chocolate.
  • Plant Based Milk – I used a unsweetened vanilla almond milk in my treat. Use your favorite plant based milk.
  • Sweetener – This is optional. I like to add a couple drops of liquid stevia to my treat. You can also add a little real maple syrup to sweeten this up.

How to make a Vegan Frozen Hot Chocolate

You will need to use a frozen banana for this recipe.

So if you don’t have a banana frozen in the freezer, you will need to place one in the day before making this treat.

Make sure to peel and chop up or break apart the banana into about 1 inch pieces before freezing.

In a high speed blender, add the frozen banana, cocoa powder, nut butter, cinnamon, plant based milk, and vanilla.

If adding a sweetener, add this now.

Blend everything until smooth, just like a smoothie.

Pour into a cup, and if you like, add a whipped topping with a wedge of chocolate.

Enjoy!
