Vegan and Gluten Free Stuffing

A simply easy and flavorful Vegan and Gluten Free Stuffing that everyone will love!

Stuffing is one of my families favorite at our Thanksgiving meal, it is as important as the mashed potatoes and gravy!

But with so many family members not able to eat dairy or gluten, I had to create a new stuffing that everyone will eat and enjoy.

I had to include all the families favorites, such as bread, a mix of two different rice, onion, garlic, celery, fresh mushrooms, and a good broth.

And the texture had to be just right, a crisp outer layer with a soft and moist inside.

Along with not being overly dry or mushy, so that this stuffing will compliment what ever it is served with.

It has to be a perfect replacement that everyone will love just as much as the old fashioned stuffing.

Not only is this stuffing full of all the holiday flavors but is is also gluten free, dairy free, and vegan.

A stuffing that can be served dry or with a little drizzle of gravy on the top and served along side mashed potatoes and gravy.

Vegan and Gluten Free Stuffing

Ingredients needed for the stuffing

  • Bread – In this recipe I used a gluten free bread. If you do not have a issue with gluten this can be any bread of your choice. Also I do not use a stale bread, this is not necessary, I used a fresh bread for the stuffing.
  • Celery – This aromatic vegetable blends well with the onion and mushrooms in the stuffing. In the recipe I do sometimes add the leaves to the stuffing, but this is optional.
  • Garlic – Adding garlic to the stuffing adds a slight nutty flavor.
  • Onion – The onion blends well with the garlic, celery, and mushrooms. Adding a sweet yet earthy flavor to the stuffing.
  • Fresh Mushrooms – A fresh mushrooms is the only way to make this homemade stuffing. There are so many varieties of mushrooms that can be used in this recipe. I have tried button, cremini, portabello, shiitake mushrooms and they have all been delicious! Experiment and use your favorite.
  • Rice – I always use two different rice in my stuffing. Wild rice is a must with it’s chewy texture and slightly smoky earthy flavor. And I use either a brown rice or a white rice, what ever I have on hand.
  • Vegetable Broth – A homemade or a bought vegetable broth will work in this stuffing.
  • Oil or Margarine – I have made this stuffing using both or just one. For the oil I use a olive or avocado. The margarine is a vegan margarine.
  • Seasonings – For this recipe I used thyme, rosemary, sage, salt, and pepper. These seasonings can be customized to your favorites.
