A simple appetizer or treat that everyone will enjoy!

And a perfect appetizer for a holiday, game day, or any party!

You can enjoy this guacamole on crackers, chips, tacos, sandwiches, or even pasta!

There’s practically no limit to guacamole.

What I love about guacamole is that it’s so easy to customize to you and your families own taste.

Try more onions, or add in some garlic, or even hot peppers.

Or why not add corn, or different fruits, such as peaches or mangoes.

This dip is easy to master with practice.

Ingredients you need for this Easy Homemade Guacamole recipe

Lime Juice – Fresh lime juice is the traditional choice. Lime juice will prevent the avocados from turning brown and will give this guacamole a fresh tangy taste.

Cilantro – Love it or hate it, but when it comes to guacamole, this herb is a must. Cilantro has a slight citrus-y taste to it, but some might get an overpowering soapy taste. I was one that would get the soapy taste from cilantro, but I love the flavor it gave certain dishes. Once I started using this herb more often and just a little at a time, I now finally enjoy cilantro in small amounts.

Tomatoes – I used a Roma tomato with my guacamole. I remove the seeds from the tomato before adding to the guacamole to limit the liquid and to help bring in more flavor of the tomato.

Onions – I like to use a sweeter onion for my guacamole, the one I prefer is the Vidalia onion, this onion is mistaken for a sweet onion, but it is actually a white onion. The most common onion used in a good guacamole is a white onion. A yellow onion is also a good option because of the versatility, great for cooking, but they can be overpowering when eaten raw. Red onions are not as sweet as the sweet vidalia, but can also be a good choice. Play around with different varieties of onions, you might be surprised at what you and your family would like in your very own guacamole.

Avocados – This fruit has an irreplaceable smooth and rich texture and a mild buttery taste that can compliment anything. I use two in this recipe.

How to pick out the perfect avocado

  • What is the color of the avocado’s skin? Is it green, dark green, black? A ripe avocado will be a dark green to black.
  • Is the avocado firm? Ripe avocado’s will yield gently with pressure without leaving indentations or feeling like mush.
  • If you do want to use the avocado a few days later, pick the greener avocado, leave out on the counter and they will ripen and be ready for your guacamole.

How long will the guacamole last in the refrigerator?

Guacamole taste best fresh, and trust me, it will not last more than 2 days in the refrigerator as soon as the family finds it.

As we all know, air causes the avocado to brown. Because of this, I like to make only what I will use in 2 to 3 days.

The longer it sits in the fridge the browner the guacamole gets, so eat it up fast!
