This Homemade Catalina French Dressing is so simple and full of that sweet tangy flavor that we all enjoy on our salad.

To be honest, I didn’t know the difference between regular french dressing and the Catalina french dressing.

So I started to research more on french dressing and here’s what I found.

Regular french dressing has a pale orange to red color, it’s creamy, with a slight hint of mustard.

The Catalina French Dressing has a bright red color and is a less creamy dressing.

I noticed there are many different varieties of french dressings but they all have the same base ingredients:

Ketchup, onion, vinegar, oil, and paprika.

Some recipes add additional ingredients such as mayonnaise, worcestershire sauce, or mustard.

I of coarse had to eliminate the worcestershire sauce since this is made from anchovies ( not vegan ).

Also I replaced the regular sugar with real maple syrup.

And I changed the vegetable oil to a healthier avocado oil.

I also made some adjustments to the spices in this dressing.

This recipe not only uses simple ingredients, but is also vegan, and gluten free.

And because this dressing is so simple to make, you will be asking yourself, “Why did I buy this dressing when it is so easy to make my own?”

Ingredients needed for the dressing

  • Oil – I like to use Avocado oil in this dressing. It is a mild flavored oil that doesn’t over power.
  • Ketchup – Use your favorite ketchup in the dressing.
  • Real Maple Syrup – To sweeten up the dressing, I like to use maple syrup. It adds a slight smokey caramel flavor to the dressing.
  • Vinegar – I used a apple cider vinegar in the dressing. This vinegar has a slight sweet and fruity flavor achieved from the apples.
  • Lemon Juice – The lemon juice adds a bright fresh citrus flavor to the dressing.
  • Water
  • Seasonings – I added salt, paprika, and onion powder to this dressing.
