Vegan Hot Chocolate

Nothing is more comforting than a hot steaming rich sweet chocolate drink that warms you up during the cold mouths.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Cups Unsweetened Plain Almond Milk
  • 1/4 Cup Chocolate I used a semisweet chocolate chip in my cocoa. Any chocolate chip or a chocolate bar will work.
  • 1 Tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Tbsp Real Maple Syrup
  • 1/2 Tbsp Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Small of Pinch Salt

Instructions
 

  • In a medium sized sauce pan, add the non-dairy milk, chocolate chips, maple syrup and cocoa powder.
  • Continue by warming everything on medium heat, stirring with a whisk until the chocolate has melted and everything is hot.
  • Next stir in the vanilla and salt.
  • Taste the hot chocolate for sweetness before pouring into the cups, this is the time to add more sweetener in needed.
  • Remove the hot chocolate from the heat and pour into mugs.
  • Top the hot chocolate with vegan marshmallows, whipped cream, caramel or a spice of your choice and serve.

Notes

Customize your hot cocoa
Add a drop of peppermint extract to your cup or add a candy cane to your cup to stir in the peppermint as it melts.
Sprinkle a little cinnamon on top of your hot chocolate.
Make it a mocha! Add coffee or a shot of espresso to the cup before pouring in the hot cocoa.
Drizzle a little of your favorite caramel into your hot chocolate.
Add a little peanut butter or your favorite nut butter to your cup of hot cocoa.
Top your cocoa with vegan marshmallows.
Dollop a fresh homemade whipped cream on the top of your hot chocolate, try out my recipe for Whipped Coconut Cream.
Sprinkle on top of the whipped cream extra crushed candy canes and/or chocolate nibs.
