Remove the tempeh from the packaging and slice into thin slices.
In a large skillet add the thinly sliced tempeh to the oil and cook on a medium heat.
After a few minutes flip the slices, browning both sides of the tempeh.
Once the tempeh has browned on each side, add the barbecue sauce and water.
Cook for about 5 to 7 minutes, while stirring just to prevent the tempeh from burning. (Do not over stir, the tempeh, it will fall apart easily.)
After 5 or 7 minutes, check if the tempeh is warm, once warm remove from heat and set aside.
Toast the bread of your choice.
Once the bread is toasted, spread the mayo onto each slice of toast.
Next spoon the barbecue tempeh onto the mayo.
Finish with topping the tempeh with cheese and sliced pickles (optional) and finish off with the other slice of toast.
Serve your barbecue sandwich with a side of your favorite chips and a pickle.
