Ingredients

  • 6 cups Apples Diced.

  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar or Real Maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup Almond Flour Can use all purpose flour if gluten is not an issue
  • 1/4 Cup Gluten Free Flour
  • 1/2 cup Oats
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup Vegan Margarine Can use real butter.

Before putting in oven.

  • 1/4 cup Real Maple Syrup

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375° F.
  • Grease a 9x13 glass baking dish with margarine or coconut oil.
  • Add the diced apples to the greased baking dish, making sure to spread them out evenly.
  • In a Medium bowl, mix the remaining ingredients for the crisp, this should be a crumble texture, easy to sprinkle on top of the apples.
  • Sprinkle this mixture over your apples, drizzle a bit of maple syrup over the top to prevent the apples from drying out while baking.
  • Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the apples are tender and the top is a golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.
  • Serve the apple crisp warm with a dollop of a vegan whipped topping or a vegan ice cream of your choice. Enjoy!

Notes

Tips for this recipe

Fresh cut apples work well in this recipe, but they tend to make the crisp drier, this is why adding a little maple syrup over before baking is important.
Frozen apples will have to thaw before making this crisp. Let the frozen apples thaw in the refrigerator 1 or 2 days before making this recipe. Drain any excess water from the apples before adding to the crisp.
While baking this apple crisp, if you notice that it looks a little dry, you can add maple syrup. I have this while baking and even after I have finished baking.
If you are baking this apple crisp with gluten free flours or a vegan margarine, I have noticed that the top does not seem to get a golden brown like it would with regular flour or real butter. So I go by the tenderness of the apples. I have made this apple crisp for years and have tried it as a vegan and non-vegan recipe, this is what I have found in my experience.
Also the bake times can vary, so keep a close eye on this. After 35 minutes, check the tenderness of the apples, if they are to your liking, it is done. If not continue in 5 minute increments deciding if it needs to bake a little longer.
