This Vegan Peanut Butter Bread is a vegan version of the Great Depression Peanut Butter Bread.
During the Great Depression, some of the staples were not always available or were very expensive.
So people had to create alternatives for some of their favorite recipes.
Here is just one of those recipes, that excluded eggs, butter, and uses just a little sugar.
It is a simple bread that uses simple ingredients and is simply so easy to make!
You will be surprised by how tasty this quick bread is and how easy it is with just a few ingredients.
In this veganized recipe, I also drizzled my homemade glaze over this loaf, my Maple Cinnamon Glaze.
Although this is optional, it is the perfect match for this bread!
If you wish to not drizzle your bread with this glaze, it is still a wonderfully tasty bread.
Smear the bread with a vegan margarine, any fruit jam, or your favorite nut butter, and Enjoy!
Ingredients for the bread
- All Purpose White Flour – White flour is the only flour I have used and prefer in this recipe.
- Sugar – I used a brown sugar in this recipe.
- Plant Based Milk – I like to use an unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Any plant based milk can be used.
- Peanut Butter – I used a creamy peanut butter. A good substitute can be a chunky peanut butter or any other nut butter of your choice.
- Baking Powder – The baking powder helps the bread to rise, add color, and adds to the flavor.
- Salt – Salt enhances the flavors of the other ingredients in the bread.
How to make a Vegan Peanut Butter Bread
Preheat the oven to 350° F.
Grease a 9×5 inch glass loaf pan, set aside.
In a medium sized mixing bowl, add the flour, salt, baking powder, brown sugar, milk, and peanut butter.
Mix everything together until well combined.
Spread the dough into the prepared loaf pan.
Slide the loaf into the oven and bake for 55 to 65 minutes or until you can insert a toothpick into the center and it comes out clean.
Once done, remove the bread from the oven.
Cool the loaf in the pan.
Once the loaf is cooled to the touch , slide a knife around the sides before turning the pan over to remove the loaf.
After the loaf has been removed from the pan, place the loaf on a cooling rack to completely cool.
Drizzle the Maple Cinnamon Glaze over the top of the loaf before slicing.
Don’t want a glaze on the bread?
Slice and smear with a vegan margarine, more creamy peanut butter, or your favorite fruit spread.
Enjoy!
