This Frosty Orange Smoothie is creamy, refreshing, and bursting with sunshine!
Full of vitamin C from the orange and pineapple, packed with nutrients from the banana and almond milk, blended with a little vanilla extract for the hint of vanilla.
Why a Smoothie?
Smoothies are a fun and delicious way to get your daily fruits and vegetables.
It makes it easier for the body to break down the liquid food over the solid.
You may also be wondering why you should have this cold drink in the middle of winter.
Well, oranges ( depending on the variety ) come into season anytime between November and continue until June, so they are plentiful.
Making this bright and sweet citrus fruit perfect to bring in more sunshine during the long cold winter days.
What ingredients go in this smoothie
- Oranges – I use both fresh oranges and orange juice. A fresh orange will give the smoothie a brighter orange color and add more liquid to the smoothie to help it blend better. And then there’s the orange juice. The juice is frozen in an ice tray the day before making this smoothie.
- Pineapple Juice – The pineapple juice will give the smoothie a sweet and tart flavor. This juice is also frozen the day before making the smoothie.
- Banana -The ripe and frozen banana gives the smoothie a mild sweetness and creamy richness that compliment the orange and pineapple.
- Plant Based Milk – In this recipe I used a unsweetened plain almond milk.
- Real Vanilla Extract– The vanilla gives this smoothie a bit more vanilla flavor as well as helping to enhance the other flavors in the smoothie.
- Real Maple Syrup – An optional sweetener. I think this smoothie will be plenty sweet without it but if you do add it to this smoothie, it will add hints of caramel and vanilla.
