We are loving this slightly spicy Homemade Sriracha Aioli in our family!
Only 7 ingredients and 5 minutes is all you need to make this flavorful aioli.
A simple sauce that can be customized whichever way you like.
In our home, we use it as a dip for fries, sandwich spread, and even as a substitute for sour cream.
With this recipe I wanted to create a sauce that will give you a perfect amount of spice and sweetness that will compliment anything.
Is Aioli just a mayo?
Aioli is very similar to a mayonnaise, but flavored and usually vegan.
Some call it a flavored mayonnaise because it has the same texture and look of a mayo.
Aioli is generally made with oil emulsified with mashed garlic and salt into a creamy texture.
But there are different areas of the world that will add egg yolks, lemon juice, and even mustard.
You will probably find all of these different versions at your local grocery stores.
So to answer the question “Is Aioli just a mayo?”, to that I say not really.
It really is in a class all its own.
What is Sriracha?
The origin of sriracha is a bit unclear, it is believed to have originated in Southeast Asia and is closely associated with Thai cuisine.
In the United States, sriracha is sometimes referred to as “rooster sauce” and has become a much more common condiment in recent years.
My husband and I are not real big on hot spicy sauces, but surprisingly we love Sriracha!
Sriracha has only a moderate spice balanced with a mildly sweet tanginess, with no lingering heat factor.
Simple ingredients go into this sauce, such as chili peppers, distilled vinegar, garlic, a sweetener, and salt.
I have not ventured into making my own hot sauce, but I may have to start!

Ingredients needed for the Homemade Sriracha Aioli
- Oil – I like to use a avocado oil to make my aioli. But this can be substituted with your favorite oil.
- Plant Based Milk – I used a plain unsweetened almond milk. Use your favorite plant based milk.
- Sriracha Sauce – A simple ingredient sauce with a moderate spice and a mildly sweet tanginess.
- Minced Garlic – I used minced garlic in my aioli. This can be substituted with a garlic powder or fresh garlic.
- Lime Juice – The lime juice is the stabilizer, this helps to bind the oil and plant based milk together. It will also create a smooth, creamy texture, and add a nice tangy flavor to the aioli. You can substitute the lime juice with lemon juice.
- Real Maple Syrup – The maple syrup adds a hint of a caramel, vanilla sweetness to the aioli.
- Seasonings – Salt, pepper, and onion powder to taste.
How to make a Homemade Sriracha Aioli
NOTE: The most important part of this recipe is that the plant based milk HAS to be room temperature.
If you choose to not let your plant based milk sit out to reach room temperature, you can warm it up in the microwave for 10 to 20 seconds.
Also if any of the other ingredients are kept in the refrigerator, make sure to leave these out to reach room temperature as well.

Next, add the oil, all the spices, minced garlic, maple syrup, sriracha sauce, and lime juice to the warm plant based milk and pour into a measuring cup for blending.

To get the perfect aioli, you will need an immersion blender.
Also do not over blend the mixture, this should take about one minute to get the consistency of a mayo.
Once the aioli is done, cover and store in the refrigerator about an hour before using.

The aioli will last about a week in the refrigerator.
Ways to serve your own Homemade Sriracha Aioli
Try the aioli on anything that you would normally add sour cream to, such as chili, baked potatoes, or nachos.
Another use for aioli is as a spread on your favorite hot or cold sandwich.
One of my favorites is to use the aioli as a dip, try it with crackers, chips, fries (like my Tornado Potatoes) or even raw vegetables!
