About Find Your Zen Spot

My name is Lisa and I want to welcome you to my lifestyle blog, Find Your Zen Spot.

I am the cook, baker, writer, photographer, decorator, organizer, and creator behind Find Your Zen Spot.

I started this blog in July of 2019.

My goal was to share the tips and secrets that I have found with…

  • Vegan and vegetarian cooking and baking.
  • Help others to become more organized.
  • Fun decorating ideas and tips.
  • Making and sharing fun Do It Yourself projects.

I hope to inform, inspire, and encourage everyone that visits to try new things, to experiment, and to have fun!

Why the name Find Your Zen Spot?

Zen is a peaceful and calming word. Zen is a word that denotes calm attentiveness. The value of Zen is meditation and intuition, and to me a perfect Spot!

Which in all of my topics, this exactly what you are channeling, your Zen.

Let me tell you a little about myself…

First off, Minnesota is where I was born and raised and will live out the rest of my days.

Growing up on a small farm in Minnesota, it was a pretty simple life.

We did gardening, raising animals, helping out neighbors with field work and just enjoying the outside with my friends.

After moving on to college in a larger town in Minnesota, my life changed from a simple farm girl to a city girl.

This is where and when I met my husband, who was a vegan and had been for about 5 years before I met him.

Being a vegetarian, veganism was a new concept for me, I had to learn how to cook and bake vegan, and trust me, that was a huge learning curve!

After having 2 beautiful boys and raising them as vegetarian, we had to make two different variations of the same dish, vegan and vegetarian.

This helped me to create many of the old family favorites into both vegan and vegetarian dishes.

Today my boys are now young men and love all the vegan and vegetarian recipes that I created, it is nostalgic for them, just as my moms recipes are for me.

Thankfully my husband and I are both vegan and I do not have to make two variations of any meal anymore!

Why I love Do It Yourself Projects

It was a simple life living on the farm.

We had to create something out of nothing, recycle items, and give a item a new life.

This is how I started enjoying Do It Yourself projects.

Why Organizing and Decorating

At the start of my school years, I struggled. I was losing everything and couldn’t keep things straight. I was all over the place.

Finally, one teacher noticed this and helped me to be more organized, and well, that has stuck with me through the years and it changed my future!

As I continued in school, I soon realized that organizing and decorating are actually one in the same and fell in love with both!

About my Vegan and Vegetarian Recipes

30 years ago there really was not much available for meat, mayo, or cheese alternatives, or substitutions of any kind.

But after years of experimenting and trying new ingredients or using old ingredients in new ways and learning new techniques, I believe I have come up with recipes that everyone will love, even meat eaters!

With my recipes, you will find that they save time, money, use easy to find ingredients, and have simple instructions.

On this blog, you will find a blend of different recipes that are not just vegan but also vegetarian, and gluten free.

Below are just a few of my recipes

Why did I decide to become Vegan?

I started a vegetarian diet when I was 15 and continued into my early 40’s.

At 40 years old I had to make a complete change into a vegan lifestyle.

My allergies are the biggest reason for going all out vegan, but I soon learned that there are many reasons to become vegan.

  • Age – As we age we become more sensitive to what we eat.
  • Cost – The cost of being vegan can be really inexpensive, if you are eating the right plant-based foods, and staying away from the processed foods.
  • Environment
  • Health

Why I write a Blog?

Fast forward 30 years and after raising 2 boys, I found myself wondering, NOW WHAT??

So I thought I would write about all the things that I have learned over the many years of creating and experimenting.

I figured that others would benefit from my results and maybe, just maybe, I might learn about new Ideas and creations along the way.

This blog will drive me to explore farther and discover new ideas and creations and my only hope is that it will do the same for you.
